Fulfilled Prophecy – Part 6 “The Messiah”

A substantial portion of the Old Testament prophecy is related to the coming Messiah. Josh McDowell listed 61 specific prophecies of the Messiah. Here are only a few key ones:
  • His birthplace in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2)
  • His flight down to Egypt (Hosea 11:1)
  • A messenger sent before to precede Him (Mal. 3:1)
  • His ministry starting in Galilee (Isaiah 9:1-2)
  • His teaching with parables (Psalm 78:2-4)
  • His entry into Jerusalem on a colt (Zechariah 9:9)
  • His being betrayed by a friend for 30 pieces of silver (Zechariah 11:12)
  • His being pierced in the hands & feet (Psalm 22:16)
  • The garments parted and lots cast (Psalm 22:17-18)
  • The gall and vinegar offered (Psalm 69:21)
  • None of his bones being broken (Psalm 34:20)
  • The darkness over the land at the time of His death (Amos 8:9)
  • His burial with the rich (Isaiah 53:9)
  • His resurrection from the dead (Psalm 16:10)
Even if an impostor sought to pawn himself off as the Messiah, he could not control many of these events, like the place of his birth. In his book Science Speaks, Peter Stoner has calculated the odds of just eight of these remarkable prophecies coming true in the life of any single man in human history as a mind-boggling 1 chance in 10 to the 17th power! This is about as close to a scientific impossibility as we can get.
